Building Project

The Building Block

Developments at the New Church

...

September 6, 2015

  • Our architect, Al Fritz, has brought us the upgraded plans which enable us to start installing the heating system.
  • Some volunteer jobs to be done:.
    • Clean up more scrap metal
    • Take pipe apart in maintenance room
    • Disconnect and move out compressors
    • Dismantle mezzanine (need hard hats, steel-toed boots and heavy gloves)
  • For Sale: Storage Trailer, approx. 10x40, has windows, a door at each end. Submit sealed bids to Sharon by September 27.
  • For Sale; Grain Auger, approx. 30 ft. long, 6 in. diameter. Needs motor. Submit sealed bids to Sharon by September 27.
  • For Sale: Milk Crates @ $1.00. See one of the Leadership Team members.

August 15 and 16, 2015

  • On Saturday, there was a "garage" sale inside the building. It was well attended and over $1,100.00 was raised.
  • Our first service in the building was held and a great message on "vision" was delivered:
A Vision Includes Seeing, Believing and Doing

June, 2015

  • The rectangular cooling vessels are gone
  • Work bees continue.

March 16, 2015

  • We have been quiet over the last few months but things have been happening.
  • We have sold the upright silo to a Hutterite colony located near Saskatoon
  • An Alberta dairy has agreed to purchase the two rectangular cooling vessels and will shortly be by to pick them up.
  • Considerable work has been done to make the above moves possible.
  • Attached is a page illustrating the silo move. Take the time to view the pictures

November 02, 2014

  • There are still a few people who have not paid for goods and materials taken from the building. Please make arrangements with Val as soon as possible.
  • In January of the new year we plan to invite our architect Al Fritz, along with his engineer and our Regional Minister Dr. Jim Leverette, to attend a Sunday morning Worship Service, followed by an information meeting about the plans for the new building.
  • Saturday, November 15, 10:00 AM - Work Bee  at the site to clean up the unsightly pile of material that has accumulated over the summer. Some of the items are salvageable; some are garbage. They need to be sorted and place into pick-up trucks for disposal. Please come with pick-up if possible and a pair of gloves. Lunch will be served at noon.

October 17, 2014

  • The old boiler has been removed from the building.
  • A new wall is being erected in the mechanical room to hold the existing working boiler, which will heat the north side of the building - an area of up to 5000 sq. ft.
  • The office areas are being prepared for the equipment needed for heat installation.
  • A deal has been completed with the Town of Smoky Lake and Capital Paper, to take all the packing cardboard left in our building (24 4X4X4 pallets) plus about six pallets belonging to the town. More blessings:
    1) Our cardboard doesn't require bailing because it is already strapped and boxed.
    2) It will be picked up at our building - we don't have to deliver it anywhere.
    3) Smoky Lake County has donated the use of it's forklift for loading.
Hopefully this will take place within the next few weeks.

October 12, 2014

  • Architect Al Fritz met with the Leadership Team and others on Tuesday to review the floor plans and 3D rendering which he had prepared.  Click here for a PDF version of the Power Point presentation given. We suggested some changes and the discussion generated more ideas for the creative development of the building.
  • Thanks to the generosity of Smoky Lake County, the parking lot has been packed and graveled.
  • The roof-top heating system is being planned, along with some temporary measures for heating.
  • Equipment sales are ongoing.

October 5, 2014

  • Architect Al Fritz will be meeting with us on Tuesday to review the plans he has prepared.
  • Smoky Lake County has responded to our request for gravel for the parking lot by approving a donation of 100 tonnes.
  • Before the gravel is delivered, the area needs to be packed.
  • Rocky Mountain Dairies has made an offer on the crate washer.

September 28, 2014

  • The architectural drawings for our new church building, including a 3-D rendering, are nearly finished.
  • Architect Al Fritz will be coming October 7th to review the plans with us.
  • Al is working with engineers to get a roof-top heating unit designed and installed.
  • A very large supply of cardboard was left in the building when we purchased it. It was offered for sale locally, but there were no buyers. It is necessary to dispose of it and burning is not an option. At our request, Smoky Lake County has donated the use of a trailer, along with a crew, to transport the cardboard to the Smoky Lake Town Maintenance Shop. There it will be baled free of charge and picked up by Capital Paper for recycling.
  • Praise God for providing a solution to this problem!

September 21, 2014

  • The tool shed attached to the building has been emptied of all tools. Thanks to Clarence and Al
  • There were a lot of tools - another bonus that came with the building. Some of them have been sold and the rest will be included in a future sale.
  • The shed will be detached and moved to another spot. We will use it to store donated furniture for our future Free Store in the church building.
  • The doorway will be sealed. It was a source of water leakage we encountered this summer.
  • The architect, Alvin Fritz, has been sent a list of all the rooms we would like to see developed in the building. He will be returning for another meeting soon.

September 14, 2014

  • Continue to praise God that our present building and parking lot have been sold and that our new building is completely paid for!
  • The above statement appeared in last week's bulletin and gave rise to some questions. It was a statement of faith and , as we know, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb. 11.1). As believers, we should be regarding our prayers as answered, and by giving God the glory, even before we witness the physical evidence. "God ...cals things that do not exists as though they did," (Rom. 4:17) and so should we!
  • Praising God in advance is one of the most effective ways to see answers to prayer.

September 7, 2014

  • Architect Al Fritz, who toured our building a week ago, recommended a rooftop Heating/air conditioning unit. We are in the process of getting one installed
  • Donations toward this unit will be gratefully received.
  • Part of the building is already equipped with under-floor heating. Josh Jarema will be restoring the boiler and piped to good working condition.
  • The large stainless steel tank has been sold. The same buyer is interested in the other two tanks.
  • Continue to praise God that our present building and parking lot have been sold and that our new building is completely paid for!

September 3, 2014

August 31, 2014

  • On Thursday the Leadership Team and the Building Committee met with architect Al Fritz from Lethbridge. Al was recommended by Dr. Jim Leverette because of his expertise in re-designing warehouse-type buildings. We were impressed with the scope of Al's knowledge and vision. First of all he listened to our plans and dreams for the building, and then spent the afternoon touring the building and the grounds. Later he shared some preliminary designs. In a few weeks, he will present a more detailed proposal. We are grateful to Al for donating some of his costs toward our project.
  • The bathrooms have been greatly improved with the installation of new vanities. Thanks, Don!

August 25, 2014

August 24, 2014

  • On Thursday, the Building Committee and the Leadership Team will be meeting with a highly- recommended Christian architect.
  • A deal is pending on the large stainless steel tank.
  • We should not be owing any money on the purchase of the building. Let's begin praising God that we are Debt-free!
  • Don farmer and his crew have refastened 80% of the roof, using sealing material with the screws. The roof had been leaking in several places.
  • The front sidewalk needs to be redone. Any volunteers?

August 3, 2014

  • Now that the future sanctuary area has been cleared of much that was left behind by the seller, we can begin to focus on the next stage of our project.
  • We need the prayers of all our people in order to realize our dream of converting a milk plant into a place of worship and community service.
  • In Particular, pray for God's revelation of His plans for the building's development, and for a Project Manager who will use His wisdom to verse and that must be done.
  • Whenever we say or think anything negative about our project, or hear something negative said, we must counteract such words and thoughts with THE WORD, which says, "with God all things are possible." Don't underestimate the tremendous power of thoughts and words, whether positive or negative!

July 27, 2014

  July 13, 2014

  • At the sale on Saturday, July 19, Val will need a couple of volunteers to help with the orders. Please let her know if you are available.
  • A sample of each of the plastic containers for sale can be viewed at the table downstairs by the kitchen.
  • The building has a scissor lift. We need to know if anyone in the church family has scissor lift certification. Is anyone interested in operating th scissor lift? Is anyone willing to take a certification course? Please see Dwight or Don.
  • The Ford Focus that came with the building has been loaned to missionaries coming home from the field.
  • Josh is working on the hot water system.
  • Al is continuing to work on cleaning up debris in the yard, and needs help.
  • Pray that God will direct us to the right person to manage our project once the building is cleared of items to be sold or scraped.

July 6, 2014

  • The building committee met last week and made plans. Before a project manager can be hired, the building must be cleared of many items that were left there.
  • In preparation for the sale on July 19 we need volunteers to help clean the premises and sort and move the items into one area. If you can help, please see Diane Klein or Don Farmer.
  • The building has a scissor lift. We need to know if anyone in the church family has scissor lift certification. Is anyone interested in operating the scissor lift? Is anyone willing to take a certification course? Please see Dwight or Don.

June 1, 2014

From the church bulletin:

  • Waterworks are being restored so that toilets will be functional and work bees can commence
  • Plans are being completed to post some of the contents of the building on the Internet for bids
  • Please pray for wisdom and direction from God as we undertake to convert a milk plant into a church

March 11, 2014

Reza and the movers were at the building for most of the day with Pastor Keith observing the process. The cheese making equipment has all been removed and packed for shipping back to Europe. It is amazing how much easier it is to move around.

February 5, 2014

Second and third reading of the zoning bylaw were passed by Town council. 21 folks from the church attended the session. Here is a news report in the Smoky Lake Signal.

January 24, 2014

Well, the financing is in place, conditions in the sales agreement have been removed, first reading of the zoning bylaw has taken place with no contest. Looks like we bought a new church. Now, the fun begins as we convert the building from a milk plant to a Christian Community Centre. As we are beginning this journey, we ask for your prayers and support. Praise the Lord!

December 12, 2013

Congregational meeting to consider the purchase of the old milk factory on Harvest Gold Blvd has taken place. Members were overwhelmingly in favour of going ahead with the purchase. Offer to purchase was previously accepted. Financing is tentatively approved. Re-zoning is still pending and there are still some conditions that have yet to be removed. Stay tuned for more information.
